Grapefruit will not help to Cure Diabetes?

There are many newspapers including the Daily Mirror, which have said that theĀ  grapefruit will contribute to for Diabetes curing. In order to support their report, they also added that there is a chemical in this fruit called naringenin, which has the same functionalities as that of two major drugs employed when it comes to diabetes treatment. However, there were some researches carried out recently in order to detect whether the chemical naringenin present in the grapefruit is really that useful in curing diabetes. As a result, the reports suggested that it is not really so.
These researches were highly concerned about the kind of effects that this chemical had on the fat metabolism of rat cells. It is quite unfortunate to see that the experts have come up saying that the confirmation (i.e. whether naringenin will help in curing diabetes) will be given after testing the same on human body.

Grapefruit is said to have an interaction with those enzymes in human body that will play a major role in breaking drown process of numerous drugs. On the other hand, it also means that high consumption of grapefruits will affect the drug treatment in people, and as a result it can give rise to some harmful side effects. This is the reason why you will find many doctors out there advising people not to consume grapefruits when they undergoing some sorts of treatments for diabetes.

How did the story arise?

One of the top hospitals in Boston called Shriners Hospital carried out some serious studies with many well known researchers on naringenin. The US National Institute of Kidney and Diabetes and Digestive, was the funding source. Later the reports were published in Plos One. However, the Daily Express, Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror were successful in covering these studies.
